Your signed practice log is due the first day of each week. Practice 120 minutes a week for an "A."
Spread your practice time out throughout the week, for example: 20 minutes a day.
Cut the page into four separate sheets and turn one in each week.
*NEW!! * BE SURE TO KEEP A DETAILED WRITTEN RECORD BASED ON THE RUBRIC OF EVERYTHING YOU ARE WORKING ON IN ORDER TO COMPLETE YOUR QUARTERLY PRACTICE PROJECT!!!!!
Here are some suggestions to help with practicing your music pieces:
1. Set a reasonable goal for your practice session.
2. Once a goal is set, decide how you plan to reach your goal.
3. Practice only those sections which need attention (my rule of thumb is to play any section five times in a row correctly—no mistakes—before moving on to another section).
4. Practice from slow tempos to faster tempos so that you can concentrate and get it right the first time. Don’t reinforce bad habits by practicing passages incorrectly without fixing mistakes (bad habits die hard!).
5. At the end of your session ask yourself whether or not you attained your goal. If you did, congratulate yourself on a job well done, if not make a note to spend time on it the next day.
6. End your practice time by playing something fun that you love.
